Luxury Family Travel Guide: Dubai & Abu Dhabi in May Half Term
A Real Experience + Heat-Friendly Itinerary for Families
Visiting Dubai and Abu Dhabi during the May half-term holidays turned out to be a perfect luxury family escape — as long as you plan around the heat. With temperatures often reaching 40°C+, most of our time was spent enjoying the UAE’s incredible indoor attractions, glamorous malls, iconic hotels and beautifully air-conditioned theme parks.
This guide shares our real experience and gives you a ready-to-use travel plan for families visiting the UAE in late spring.
Where We Stayed in Dubai: Kempinski Mall of the Emirates

For the first half of our trip, we stayed at Kempinski Mall of the Emirates, which was the ideal choice for a May visit — especially with children.
Why It’s Perfect for Families in Hot Weather
-
- Direct, seamless access to Mall of the Emirates
-
- Large, elegant rooms ideal for families
-
- Exceptional service throughout the hotel
-
- Unique views overlooking Ski Dubai
Being connected to such a major mall meant we could enjoy shopping, dining and activities without stepping into the midday heat.
Ski Dubai: Private Ski Lessons Inside the Desert

With temperatures soaring outside, Ski Dubai became our favourite escape. Booking private ski lessons was one of our best decisions.
The instructors were patient, friendly and incredibly professional — making the kids feel instantly comfortable. Their calm, tailored approach meant the children learned quickly while still having loads of fun.
Skiing inside a giant indoor snow dome in the middle of the desert felt surreal and unforgettable.
Mall of the Emirates: Luxury Shopping & Family Dining
Mall of the Emirates became our indoor sanctuary. With luxury brands, family stores and entertainment, there was always something to explore.
We also enjoyed meals at The Cheesecake Factory, one of our go-to favourites thanks to its huge menu and generous portions.
Evenings at Dubai Creek

As temperatures began to drop each evening, we headed to Dubai Creek. With softly lit dhow boats gliding across the water and a warm evening breeze, the setting was peaceful and atmospheric — a lovely contrast to the modern malls.
Our Abu Dhabi Chapter: Yas Island for Families
Where We Stayed: Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island

Our stay at Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island was a standout experience. The hotel felt luxurious yet family-friendly, with spacious rooms and excellent facilities.
Best Part? Theme Park Tickets Included
Our stay included free access to:
-
- Ferrari World
-
- Warner Bros. World
-
- Yas Waterworld
This added incredible value and made planning effortless.
Ferrari World Abu Dhabi

Ferrari World offers a thrilling mix of adrenaline rides, family attractions, simulators and entertainment — all indoors and beautifully air-conditioned, making it perfect for May travel.
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi

One of the largest indoor theme parks in the world, Warner Bros. World features immersive lands including Gotham City, Metropolis, Bedrock and Looney Tunes.
Because it’s fully indoors, it’s an ideal all-day activity for hotter months.
What We Learned About Visiting the UAE in May

- The heat shapes your itinerary: Expect 38–42°C and plan indoor days.
